Kizomba is like a dream
Let's dream together
Kizomba - the partner dance from Africa
Kizomba - also called "African Tango" - originates from Angola and means "party, festival, celebration".
Kizomba originated in the 1980s. It's one of the most popular music and dance styles in Portuguese-speaking Africa. The dance was later brought to Portugal by immigrants, and that's how it found its way to us. Now, as a new dance trend, Kizomba is conquering all of Europe.
The dance is somewhat reminiscent of tango in terms of posture and steps. However, as an African dance, the emphasis is on the hips, with a focus on natural, flowing movements. Overall, kizomba feels softer than Argentine tango, a feeling enhanced by relaxed hips, loose knees, and, of course, the African rhythms.
What's special about Kizomba
Kizomba is characterized by calmness and good lead contact. The movements are soft and flowing, and the music is individually interpreted through the alternation of slow and fast steps. This freedom of expression is what makes the dance so exciting. All of this requires good lead and heightened sensitivity on the part of the follower. Ideally, the dancers can experience feeling as one with their partner, because
"Kizomba is danced by two souls in only one body."
